Annual Reception of the Association of Friends & Sponsors of HSBA: Fostering Commitment, Opening Up Opportunities
Friends and sponsors, students, alumni, staff and representatives of our partner companies came together yesterday at the annual reception of the Association of Friends & Sponsors of HSBA (VFF) at the HSBA campus. The event provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, make new connections and learn more about the diverse projects and initiatives made possible through the association’s commitment.
Mattias Schmelzer, Chair of the VFF, opened the event by welcoming the guests and presenting the association’s work. Since its foundation, the Association of Friends & Sponsors of HSBA has supported HSBA and its students by funding a wide range of initiatives, including student involvement in committees, sporting activities, research projects, conference participation and stays abroad. Its aim is to strengthen the student community, create additional opportunities for personal and professional development, and further expand the links between the university and the business community.
Following the welcome, Tim Goydke, President of HSBA and a member of the VFF Board, introduced the theme of this year’s special prize: “Chance Up! – Mehr Wege. Mehr Chancen.” Students were invited to develop campaign concepts that highlight equal opportunities and demonstrate that HSBA is open to people from a wide range of backgrounds, educational journeys and life paths.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the shortlisted student concepts. Moderated by Barbara Hatzer, Deputy Chair of the VFF, and David Frikin, an HSBA alumnus and member of the association’s Board, the student teams presented their campaign ideas in three-minute pitches. Some of the presentations also offered highly personal insights into the students’ journeys towards a dual study programme at HSBA – a work-integrated degree programme combining academic study with practical experience.

The concepts presented demonstrated impressively just how diverse the routes to HSBA can be. Alongside creative communication ideas, the focus was particularly on personal stories, individual experiences and authentic insights into everyday student life – told in an approachable, honest and unfiltered way. The teams showed how equal opportunities are put into practice at HSBA and how young people from very different backgrounds can find their own route into a dual study programme.
The VFF Board and the audience jointly evaluated the entries and decided how the prize money would be awarded. Congratulations to Leon Karatas and Jan Müller, whose entry “Back to School” won the main prize of €1,000. Luca Braun took second place with “Mein Weg zur HSBA”, followed by Laura Deiter in third place with “My Way. Auf den zweiten Blick.”
During the reception that followed, guests took the opportunity to discuss the ideas in greater depth, make new contacts and exchange views on the future of HSBA.
