Devon Park breaks ground on new indoor training facility ahead of LA28 - World Baseball Softball Confederation - wbsc.org Devon Park breaks ground on new indoor training facility ahead of LA28 Construction has begun on the new Choctaw Nation Fieldhouse at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, as the iconic softball venue continues its preparations for the LA28 Olympic Games and a series of upcoming WBSC World Cups. The City of Oklahoma City and USA Softball broke ground on the 30,000-square-foot (approximately 2,800-square-metre) indoor training facility, which will be located on the west side of Devon Park. A post shared by USA Softball (@usasoftball) The development comes as USA Softball announced a nine-year partnership with Choctaw Nation, which becomes an Official Partner of USA Softball and the naming rights sponsor of the new facility. The Choctaw Nation Fieldhouse will feature two indoor practice infields, allowing two teams to train simultaneously in separate areas, as well as team changing rooms, sports medicine facilities, a weight room and spaces for player development and administration. An enclosed, climate-controlled connection will link the Fieldhouse directly to Devon Park stadium. The US$21 million project is funded through Oklahoma City's 2025 Bond programme. The Oklahoma Department of Commerce has also contributed US$8 million towards improvements to Devon Park, including new chairback seating, upgraded practice fields, improvements to the sound system and additional protective features. Construction of the Fieldhouse is expected to take 18 months. “ Our vision for Oklahoma City has always centered on creating a world-class home for softball, and the Choctaw Nation Fieldhouse is another major step toward that future,” USA Softball CEO Craig Cress said. “ As we prepare to welcome the world to Oklahoma City for the Olympic Games, as well as continue its storied tradition of hosting the Women's College World Series, this Fieldhouse will provide elite training opportunities for athletes while also creating a lasting impact for our sport long after 2028.” A post shared by City of OKC (@cityofokc) Devon Park's growing international role The development adds to a significant period for Devon Park on the international softball calendar. The venue will host the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Oklahoma City from 12 to 16 September 2026, featuring hosts USA alongside Brazil, China, Mexico, the Netherlands and New Zealand. Two teams will qualify for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Finals 2027 in Australia. It will mark the third consecutive year in which Devon Park has staged WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup competition, following a Group Stage tournament in 2023 and the Finals in 2024. Oklahoma City will then welcome the WBSC U-15 Women’s Softball World Cup in 2027, with USA Softball and Devon Park also awarded hosting rights for the 2029 and 2031 editions. The venue will take on an even greater international role in 2028 when it hosts the softball competition at the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028. Softball will return to the Olympic programme after its most recent appearance at Tokyo 2020. The new Fieldhouse is intended to provide a year-round training environment for USA Softball national teams, including as they prepare for LA28, while also supporting athlete development programmes, events and community activities.
