BWF China Masters 2026: An Seyoung and Jason Gunawan claim singles crowns in Shenzhen

An has won seven of the eight finals she has played in this season, with the world No. 1 now victorious in Shenzhen for the third year in succession.

An Seyoung and Jason Gunawan ruled supreme at the 2026 BWF China Masters on Sunday (6 September).

Olympic champion An clinched her seventh women’s singles title of the season, doing so without dropping a game in Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China. She breezed past former junior world champion Miyazaki Tomoka 21-17, 21-6 in 45 minutes.

“I’m so proud of myself. I’m really pleased with the result and I feel so happy,” the Paris 2024 badminton gold medallist said via the BWF . “There are many players coming up and challenging. I don’t think any match can be taken lightly.

“Tomoka put me under a lot of pressure, which left me a bit flustered. But I tried to calmly maintain my pace and not to rush.”

The Republic of Korea star is in excellent form heading into the Asian Games, which take place in Japan from 19 September to 4 October. Just last month, she secured her second world title in New Delhi and will be the overwhelming favourite in Ichinomiya.

An has been victorious in seven of the eight finals she has played in this season. She has also now won the China Masters for the third year in a row.

The men’s singles finalists share much in common. Gunawan and Lee Cheuk Yiu are both from Hong Kong, China, were both unseeded in Shenzhen and are also training teammates.

Similarly to An, Gunawan claimed a straight-game victory, winning 21-9, 21-16 in the showpiece event.

“It’s fantastic - I think it’s the first time we can test ourselves against each other in a title match,” said the world No. 32, who won his second BWF title in his maiden Super 750 final.

“We know each other very well. We train a lot together. It’s a great confidence boost for us and our team. Hopefully, we can show our teammates and the younger players we can fight against the stronger teams and give them more confidence for the future.”
