France captain Omar Diodene Pacheco targets more Baseball5 World Cup success
Passion for sport is often born in everyday surroundings - in neighbourhood streets, among friends and within the local community. For France captain Omar Diodene Pacheco, those early experiences laid the foundations for a stellar international Baseball5 career, which continues to excite fans around the world.
Diodene grew up in Cuba playing cuatro esquinas , a street version of Baseball, before discovering Baseball5 in France in 2020 at the age of 29.
“I played cuatro esquinas a lot when I was young, and I discovered Baseball5 after moving to France in 2020, thanks to my club president, Colette,” Diodene said.
Now representing the Tigers de Thiais in Île-de-France, Diodene has established himself as an influential member of the French national team. His career has included appearances at several major international competitions and an impressive collection of medals.
One of his proudest achievements came at the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup 2024 in Hong Kong, China where he fulfilled his ambition of competing on the global stage and helped France earn the bronze medal .
“The World Cup was an unforgettable experience," Diodene added. “That moment was unique because, with Team France, we achieved our goal of winning a medal. It was incredible, a magnificent moment.”

His international medal collection also includes silver from the 2023 Baseball5 European Championship and gold from the 2025 edition .
Last month in Taranto, Italy, Diodene, who turns 35 on 2 October, once again played a leading role for Les Bleus at the Mediterranean Cup , producing a series of spectacular defensive plays while remaining a constant threat in attack.
France took the opening set of the final against Türkiye before their opponents recovered to claim the title in a fiercely contested three-set encounter. Although Les Bleus had to settle for silver, the tournament provided another valuable test ahead of the World Cup at the end of the year.

With another international medal added to his collection, Diodene is now focused on helping France match or improve upon their bronze-medal finish at the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup 2026 in Puerto Rico .
He was also part of the France delegation who finished second, behind Spain at the Cuore delle Alpi tournament in Aosta, Italy last month.
Diodene said, with regards to the third edition of the WBSC Baseball5 World Cup, which takes place in Puerto Rico from 9 to 13 December, reproducing the commitment and intensity France displayed in Hong Kong will be essential.
“The work we all did, the rivalry, the excitement of the game - everything was incredible,” he said.
For Diodene, France’s prospects will depend not only on individual quality but also on the unity that has become one of the team’s defining strengths.
“Team cohesion is the most important thing. It is fundamental in Baseball5, just as it is in Baseball.
“The most beautiful thing is the combination of men and women, as well as the joy you feel on the court. It’s incredible and very different from baseball or any other sport.”
Diodene’s power is one of his principal strengths. He recorded an impressive .808 batting average and drove in 22 runs during the Mediterranean Cup, underlining his importance to the French offence.
“For me, the easiest thing is hitting the ball with power. I believe that is one of my strengths.”
France will again look to their captain’s leadership, experience and offensive ability when the world’s leading Baseball5 teams gather in Puerto Rico. Having already reached the podium once, Diodene and Les Bleus will arrive determined to challenge for another World Cup medal.
