Sustainability and local impact as the cornerstones of partnership – Myrskylän Säästöpankki
Myrskylän Säästöpankki joined Haaga-Helia as a partner for a shared desire to promote financial literacy among young people, support the local community, and build connections with future professionals.
Founded in 1912, Myrskylän Säästöpankki is a long-established Finnish bank with branches in Myrskylä, Orimattila, Mäntsälä, Porvoo, and Sipoo. The bank provides personal and corporate customers with everyday banking services, financing solutions, savings and investment services, and legal services.
The decision to become a Haaga-Helia partner is rooted in the bank’s values and its commitment to taking responsibility for its operating environment.
– Sustainability is an important theme for us. We want to support the local community while helping young people discover opportunities in working life. Through this partnership, young people will also find us more easily, says HR Manager Petra Oijala .
Bringing students and working life closer together
Myrskylän Säästöpankki sees Haaga-Helia’s students as an important pool of future talent. The aim of the partnership is to increase students’ understanding of the banking and finance sector, while providing opportunities for internships and employment.
The bank already has several successful examples of internships leading to careers within the Savings Bank.
– Internships are an excellent pathway into working life. We have several employees who joined the bank through an internship and have built long careers within the organization, says Administrative Specialist Roosa Turpeinen , who is also a Haaga-Helia alumna.
Haaga-Helia’s educational offering supports the bank’s competence needs in many ways. Students specializing in finance and economics are of particular interest, but opportunities are equally available for talent in marketing, business, IT, and digital services.
Kai Pietilä , Senior Lecturer in Finance and Economics, serves as the bank’s Partner Manager. In practice, he acts as a bridge between the company and students by informing the bank about upcoming events and opportunities for lecture collaboration, among other things.
The practical benefits of the cooperation are also supported by Myrskylän Säästöpankki’s strong local presence. The bank’s Porvoo branch is located within walking distance of Haaga-Helia’s Porvoo campus, making it easy for students to meet experts and access services.
Myrskylän Säästöpankki staff welcomed students back to the Porvoo campus at the start of the new academic year in August. Bank representatives met students, handed out patches for student overalls, and introduced their services to students in the lobby of the Porvoo campus.
The bank wants to make its services easily accessible to students. For this reason, Myrskylän Säästöpankki offers personal face-to-face and remote meetings at all its branches, as well as free banking services for customers under the age of 27. Students can receive advice on topics such as saving, investing, ASP housing savings, and personal financial planning.
– Our message to students is: take control of your finances early on. We are happy to help with questions related to personal finances and savings, encourages Ville Salo , Private Banker.
The cooperation between Haaga-Helia and Myrskylän Säästöpankki is built on a shared objective of helping young people succeed in working life. Students gain valuable practical knowledge and pathways into employment, while Myrskylän Säästöpankki’s experts have the opportunity to meet new talent and strengthen brand awareness and employer image among future professionals.
The bank’s current slogan also serves as a reminder to enjoy life amid studies, work, and future planning.
Säästöpankki – We serve, you enjoy. (me palvelemme, sinä elät)
