Entrepreneurial Mindset Immersion Program – EMIP | Open Space
The Entrepreneurial Mindset Immersion Program (EMIP) is a 12-week experiential learning initiative designed by Mascara University’s Business Incubator to address a critical challenge in Algeria: the gap between academic education and the mindset, competences and practical skills required for real-world entrepreneurship . Many young graduates possess theoretical knowledge but lack resilience, initiative, problem-solving capacity and exposure to authentic entrepreneurial environments. EMIP responds directly to this challenge by placing mindset development and hands-on experience at the centre of the learning process.
Why the practice is innovative
The practice is innovative because it moves beyond traditional “business plan training” towards an immersive, neuroscience-informed approach focused on mindset transformation, AI-enabled learning and real startup experience . Rather than simply teaching students how to write a business plan, the programme helps them learn how to think, act and learn like entrepreneurs .
EMIP combines mind-shifting techniques, problem-based learning, crisis simulations and the creation of AI Agents that help learners automate early-stage tasks, reduce startup costs and develop rapid experiments using accessible digital tools. This integrated approach is particularly innovative in the Algerian higher-education context and is strongly aligned with emerging “New Learning” approaches .
Type of integration and key competences
The integration of key competences is embedded throughout the programme. EMIP develops:
Entrepreneurship competence , through initiative, opportunity identification, value creation and responsible risk-taking.
Digital competence , through AI tools, automation, digital market research and prototype development.
Learning-to-learn competence , through reflection, self-regulation, iterative learning and reflective journaling.
Citizenship and sustainability competences , through exploration of local challenges and the development of community-focused solutions.
This combination ensures that entrepreneurship is understood not simply as starting a business, but as a broader capacity for initiative, problem-solving, adaptation and value creation .
The role of the trainer goes beyond traditional instruction. Trainers act as facilitators, mentors and learning architects , guiding students through real-world challenges rather than simply delivering lectures. They help learners reframe failures, run experiments, navigate uncertainty and reflect on their personal development.
Trainers also act as connectors between students and the entrepreneurial ecosystem , curating opportunities for interaction with real entrepreneurs and helping learners gain insights from authentic business experiences.
Learning activities are fully experiential and practice-oriented and include:
Mindset Reset workshops , using behavioural and neuroscience-based exercises.
Fieldwork , focused on market discovery, customer interviews and opportunity mapping.
Startup Shadowing , during which students spend six weeks observing and supporting entrepreneurs.
AI-powered learning labs , where students build digital agents, automate tasks and prototype ideas.
Crisis Simulation sessions , replicating real entrepreneurial decision-making under pressure and uncertainty.
Weekly mentoring , inspired by the Techstars coaching model.
Reflective journals , supporting metacognition and the development of learning-to-learn competence.
Together, these activities create a learning environment in which students can experiment, make mistakes, reflect, adapt and try again , closely mirroring the realities of entrepreneurship.

Its structure, based on experiential modules, accessible AI tools and partnerships with local startups, makes it relatively easy to replicate across Algerian universities and adapt to different socio-economic contexts.
With limited resource requirements and strong pedagogical value, the model has significant potential to inspire new entrepreneurship and “New Learning” approaches across the Mediterranean region , particularly where higher-education institutions are seeking to strengthen the transition between academic learning, employability and entrepreneurial activity.
