Asian Games 2026 organizers reveal 54 venues across Aichi-Nagoya; main stadium to host opening and closing ceremonies

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will use 54 venues. The Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies.

The Asian Games 2026 , scheduled from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, will feature 43 sports and 469 events spread across 54 competition venues .

More than 11,000 athletes from 45 countries are expected to compete at the continental multi-sport event. Japan will host the Asian Games for the third time after Tokyo 1958 and Hiroshima 1994.

While the upcoming edition will primarily be held in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya, competitions will also be staged in Tokyo, Shizuoka, Gifu and Osaka.

The list of venues for Asian Games 2026 includes multiple facilities previously used for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, namely the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, the Equestrian Park in Setagaya and the Izu Velodrome.

The organisers have opted to use existing sports facilities, supplemented by new, redeveloped and temporary venues where required.

The Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium will serve as the main venue for the 2026 Asian Games. Redeveloped ahead of the Games and opened in April 2026, it will host the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the athletics and marathon competitions.

The Aichi International Arena, opened in July 2025, will stage basketball and judo .

Asian Games 2026 venues: Key stadiums and arenas

The Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium will be the centrepiece of the Asian Games 2026, hosting the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the athletics programme and the start and finish of the marathon. Extensively redeveloped ahead of the Games, the stadium reopened in April 2026.

Several venues from the Tokyo Olympic Games will also be used at Aichi-Nagoya 2026. The Tokyo Aquatics Centre, built for Tokyo 2020, will host swimming and diving, while the Izu Velodrome in Shizuoka, which staged track cycling at the same Olympics, will once again welcome Asia’s leading track cyclists.

The Equestrian Park in Tokyo has an even longer Olympic association. The historic venue staged equestrian events at both the Tokyo 1964 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics and will host dressage, eventing and jumping at the Asian Games.

While Aichi and Nagoya form the heart of the Games, several sports will extend beyond the host region. Football will be particularly widespread, with matches across seven stadiums in four prefectures. The Toyota Stadium will stage the men’s football final.

Some venues have also been developed or upgraded specifically ahead of Aichi-Nagoya 2026. A cricket ground with a natural-grass pitch has been developed at Korogi Athletic Park in Nisshin City for the men’s and women’s T20 competitions, while the pitches at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium, venue for the hockey matches, were upgraded in December 2025.

Elsewhere, all seven badminton medal events will be held at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium, while Pacific Long Beach in Tahara City will provide a natural setting for surfing’s Asian Games debut.

Seven sports at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 - archery, hockey, sailing, squash, surfing, tennis and triathlon - will offer direct qualification quotas for the LA 2028 Olympics.

There will be Indian interest in six of these, with triathlon - to be held in Gamagori City - being the only exception.

The Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square will host archery competitions while the Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor will flag off sailing events.

Squash will be held at the Nagoya Kinjo-Futo Arena and tennis matches will be played at the Nagoya City Higashiyama Park Tennis Center.
