Ten things to know about the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup
The WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup presented by RAXUS is heading to Mexico, bringing together the world’s most promising young players to represent their countries and compete for the title of world champion.
From the 12-team field and historic venues to the competition format and global viewing options, here are 10 things to know before the first pitch.
- Twelve teams, 50 games and one world title Twelve National Teams will compete across 50 games to determine the U-15 world champions.
Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Germany, Japan, hosts Mexico and South Africa will compete in Group A. Australia, Czechia, Nicaragua, Chinese Taipei, USA and Venezuela make up Group B.
- Two iconic Mexican venues Two established professional baseball venues will provide the stage for the tournament.
Estadio Beto Ávila in Cancún, home of the Tigres de Quintana Roo, will host Group B and the Placement Round. Parque Kukulcán Alamo in Mérida, home of the Leones de Yucatán, will serve as the venue for Group A, the Super Round, the Bronze Medal Game and the Championship Final.
- Every previous champion will be there Since the competition adopted the U-15 age category in 2012, four countries have lifted the trophy: Venezuela, Cuba, USA and Japan.
All four will compete in Mexico. Will one of them add another world title, or will a new champion emerge?

- The road to the world title The tournament will follow the traditional WBSC Baseball World Cup format.
The 12 teams will begin in two groups of six, with the top three from each group advancing to the Super Round. The remaining teams will continue in the Placement Round.
Results between teams advancing from the same Opening Round group will carry over into the Super Round. At the end of the Super Round, the top two teams will contest the Championship Final, while the third- and fourth-placed sides will meet in the Bronze Medal Game.
- The 21st youth world cup — and seventh of the U-15 era The 2026 tournament will be the 21st edition in the history of the competition and the seventh since the U-15 age category was adopted in 2012.
While Tokyo, Japan hosted the first ever edition of the youth world cup in 1989, Mexico hosted the inaugural edition of the U-15 era in Chihuahua in 2012 and welcomed the tournament back to Sinaloa two years later. Iwaki, Japan, staged the 2016 edition before the competition returned to the Americas in 2018, with games played in David and Chitré, Panama.
Following the 2022 tournament in Hermosillo, Mexico, and the 2024 edition in Barranquilla and Cartagena, Colombia, Mérida and Cancún will stage the seventh U-15 edition — and the fourth hosted by Mexico.

With several of the world’s leading baseball programmes in the field, the tournament could have a significant impact when the Ranking is next updated.

The tournament pass provides access to every pitch, hit and decisive moment from Mérida and Cancún, allowing supporters to follow the action wherever they are.
- More than 2,500 official SSK baseballs SSK, the WBSC’s official baseball supplier for World Cups and the Premier12, will provide more than 2,500 baseballs for the tournament.
Some may even find their way into the stands, giving fans in attendance the chance to take home a special memory from the World Cup.

- Ten days of competition The tournament will open on Friday, 25 September, and conclude with the world championship game on Sunday, 4 October.
The full schedule features Opening Round, Placement Round and Super Round action before the Bronze Medal Game and Championship Final bring the competition to a close.
