From 2011 to the present 2026 The BASF entities in Waterloo moved to a new building in Braine-l’Alleud in April 2026. The coatings transaction between Carlyle and BASF, which was announced in October 2025, was completed on June 30, 2026, after all required regulatory approvals had been obtained. Following the completion of the transaction, BASF holds a 40 percent stake in Surventis, formerly BASF Coatings. The BASF Coatings facility in Bornem is now part of the independent company Surventis. 2025 In October 2025, BASF and Carlyle reached a binding transaction agreement on BASF’s automotive OEM coatings, automotive refinish coatings and surface treatment businesses (“BASF Coatings”). 2021 In 2021, VIB, a leading life sciences institute in Flanders, signed an agreement with BASF for the acquisition of its CropDesign site in Nevele, Belgium. VIB and CropDesign have maintained a close scientific relationship for over 15 years. CropDesign, which forms part of BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division, was founded in 1998 as a spin-off from VIB and has grown into a biotechnology company specialising in plant phenotyping technology.
