Psi4 developers create psi4-cbo within Psi4 framework; joint nuclear-photonic Hessian analysis

Psi4 developers create psi4-cbo within Psi4 framework; joint nuclear-photonic Hessian analysis Enabling Polaritonic Electronic Structure Theory for Psi4:The psi4-cbo package Enabling Polaritonic Electronic Structure Theory for Psi4: The psi4-cbo package We present psi4-cbo , an open-source extension of the Psi4 program for simulations within the cavity Born-Oppenheimer approximation (CBOA) . By treating the cavity photon mode on the same footing as the nuclear coordinates, psi4-cbo incorporates light-matter coupling into standard electronic structure workflows. These workflows include self-consistent field calculations, response theory, analytic gradients, joint Hessians, and geometry optimization. The package is designed for reproducibility and is documented with working examples for its main workflows. To evaluate the approximations inherent to the CBOA framework, we use an exact quantum-electrodynamical full configuration interaction (QED-FCI) reference. Resolving the correlation energy into electron-electron and electron-photon channels enables us to precisely determine the point at which the CBOA becomes quantitatively sufficient. Additionally, we highlight that, since self-consistent treatments dress the cavity modes, satisfying experimental resonance conditions is method-dependent. As a practical application, we investigate the chromophore acrolein under vibrational strong coupling and detail how to locate resonances on the dressed photon modes rather than the bare molecular bands. ...

Researchers analyze non-Markovian barrier-crossing dynamics in simulations and analytical theory; three scaling regimes for mean first-passage time.

Researchers analyze non-Markovian barrier-crossing dynamics in simulations and analytical theory; three scaling regimes for mean first-passage time. Reaction dynamics in non-Markovian systems with non-monotonically decaying memory Reaction dynamics in non-Markovian systems with non-monotonically decaying memory Whereas the effect of monotonically decaying memory kernels on reaction dynamics has been studied extensively, the effect of oscillatory memory, observed for widely different systems, is much less explored. We analyze non-Markovian barrier-crossing dynamics in the presence of a single exponentially decaying oscillatory friction memory kernel by simulations and analytical theory. We identify three scaling regimes: two in which the mean first-passage time τ MFP \tau_{\mathrm{MFP}} scales quartically and linearly with the memory kernel decay time τ o \tau_{\mathrm{o}} , respectively, and a third in which τ MFP \tau_{\mathrm{MFP}} scales quartically with the oscillation period τ φ \tau_{\varphi} of the memory kernel. Our results are relevant to a broad class of many-body dynamical systems such as dihedral isomerization processes and chemical reactions in solvents. ...

Researchers introduce non-empirical Δf_xc(q,ω) to TDDFT for nonlocal XC; dramatic spectral improvement; aligns with experiments.

Researchers introduce non-empirical Δf_xc(q,ω) to TDDFT for nonlocal XC; dramatic spectral improvement; aligns with experiments. Nonempirical Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory Framework for Nonlocal Exchange–Correlation Potentials Nonempirical Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory Framework for Nonlocal Exchange–Correlation Potentials Advanced, orbital-dependent exchange–correlation (XC) functionals can significantly improve the description of electronic structural properties, but they substantially worsen spectral properties that are computed within standard linear-response time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) frameworks. This is not a failure of the underlying Kohn-Sham states, but due to a formal inconsistency in the treatment of the dynamic density response when the non-locality of the XC potential is not taken into account consistently on the level of the full off-diagonal density matrix. To avoid these complexities, we present a non-empirical additive correction Δ f xc ( 𝐪 , ω ) \Delta f_{\textnormal{xc}}(\mathbf{q},\omega) to the dynamic XC kernel that re-enforces the exact f-sum rule of the non-local KS Hamiltonian within TDDFT. Comparing our new results against a representative set of accurate experimental measurements (ambient aluminum, silicon and carbon, as well as heated and compressed aluminum) reveals a dramatic improvement in all cases without any additional computational cost. The corresponding extension to the open-source GPAW code is made freely available online. We further investigate the implications of non-local pseudopotentials and show that the non-locality has an important, physically motivated effect that is indispensable to capture the correct plasmon dispersion in lieu of full all-electron simulations. In addition to being important for the estimation of a plethora of dynamic and spectral properties, our work constitutes an important step towards a universal XC functional that can be used to estimate all kinds of observables with high accuracy. Finally, we outline the potential utility of our framework for the development of advanced non-local XC functionals, and suggest a new way to rigorously verify non-local pseudopotentials against experimental measurements of collective excitations. ...

AI agents on shopping platforms; sponsorship bias in evaluations

AI agents on shopping platforms; sponsorship bias in evaluations Whom Do AI Agents Work For? Role Assignment Induces Sponsorship Bias in LLM Recommenders Whom Do AI Agents Work For? Role Assignment Induces Sponsorship Bias in LLM Recommenders Abstract Large language models (LLMs) now serve as conversational shopping assistants on platforms that also sell advertising. These AI agents face a conflict of duty. They advise consumers who rely on their judgment, yet are deployed by platforms that benefit when sponsored listings are chosen. Sponsorship disclosures, designed to allow consumers to penalize paid placements, now reach the AI agent rather than the consumer, and the agent’s evaluation of them is hidden from the consumer. Drawing on the fiduciary concept of conflict of duty, we argue that an agent’s evaluation of a sponsored listing should not depend on which party deployed it. In controlled choice experiments, we manipulate assigned roles in the system prompt to name either a traveler or a booking platform as the agent’s principal. Platform delegation significantly attenuates the penalty that agents apply to sponsored listings and weakens the skepticism that disclosure triggers in their reasoning traces. We replicate out findings across LLMs and reasoning depths. A second study decomposes the disclosure label and shows that the divergence between the two delegates widens significantly when the paid placement is attributed to the platform. Stricter terminology (“Sponsored” instead of “Promoted”) lowers choice of paid listings but does not close this gap when the platform is named. The findings show that disclosure mandates designed for human consumers cannot by themselves protect consumers in AI-mediated commerce. ...
